Dental Bridges are a very popular form of dental restoration and have been helping to restore full function to a mouth with missing teeth for decades. Part of the reason for their popularity is because of the relatively routine nature of the treatment. They are also highly effective and reliable and can provide a cost-effective route to a happier smile for many patients.
Put in very simple terms, a bridge will quite literally ‘bridge’ a gap in the mouth left by a missing tooth or teeth. They are a great option for patients with just one missing tooth, or with one or more missing teeth in the side of the mouth.
A bridge is made up of a prosthetic tooth (or teeth), which is then held in place via the adjoining natural teeth. There are several different types of bridge available, and while some use a frame to attach the prosthetic tooth to the natural teeth, this is by no means always the case. The most common option is to use crowns to attach the new prosthetic tooth into place. These will be attached to the remaining natural teeth, which will then act as an anchor to the new tooth.
The process of getting a bridge fitted is simple and after your initial consultation with us, it can usually be carried out over just two appointments. After determining that a bridge is the right course of treatment for you and that you are a viable patient for the treatment, we will then take a digital scan of the mouth. This will then be used by highly experienced and skilled technicians off-site, who will make your custom bridge for you. Once ready, you’ll return to the practice and one of our experienced and gentle Dentists will apply it for you.
