Our experienced Dentists can combine acupuncture with more conventional dental treatment to give you a more bespoke treatment.
For example, if you have a severe toothache, you may need a filling, but acupuncture will help you with any postoperative pain and anxiety. Acupuncture can also be used to treat or reduce bruxism (teeth grinding). An initial consultation will take place to discuss your concerns and see if dental acupuncture can work for you.
Acupuncture is being used more and more in patients who previously had to receive general anaesthetic or sedation.
Acupuncture is generally very safe. Single-use, sterile needles are used and the treatment is simple and quick. The needles stimulate the nervous system to produce a number of effects, modifying the way pain signals are felt and releasing natural painkillers – endorphins and serotonin – into the nervous system. However, acupuncture does more than just control pain. Patients also often see added health benefits such as better sleep following acupuncture treatment.
People will respond to acupuncture in their own way. Some patients notice an immediate improvement, whilst others find that several treatments are needed before the full effect is felt. There are some people who may not even respond to this type of treatment.
